It’s been a year since we began the process of adoption. Everything is pretty quiet around here now as we wait to be chosen by a birth mother. Once we’re chosen, things normally move pretty quick so they encourage us to be as ready as we can. Back in the fall, our friends and family threw us showers and we prepared the nursery.
Since we don’t know if we will adopt a boy or a girl yet, we went gender neutral. The funny thing is that I love grey and yellow and it’s prevalent throughout our house! I knew immediately I wanted to stripe a wall and go with white furniture. I didn’t want to necessarily “theme” the room, but knew I wanted to tie in elephants somehow. They’re my favorite since I spent a summer in Thailand and the elephant is their national animal. I found the bedding on Amazon and knew immediately it was “the one”. It’s kind of like buying a wedding dress! Anyway, it’s definitely not complete and I’ll probably add in a little bit of navy or coral depending on the sex of our baby. But for now, it’s “ready” and waiting for an occupant! So, here’s a mini tour of Baby Shewcraft’s nursery…
Raleigh loves spending time in here! We like to think it’s because he is awaiting the arrival of baby S, but honestly, he just likes all the stuffed animals!
Brett built the white shelves here and above the crib. He was so excited to make something just by him! Another special thing is this artwork. My dad picked it out all by himself! *tear* What you may not know is my maiden name is Moon. My dad found this at Target and told my mom he had to get it for the nursery!
I love our Ikea shelf and especially love the painting. I found the idea on pinterest (of course!) and Brett pieced together some wood for me to paint.
I’m in love with this piece of art too! Some dear family friends bought it for us. They have known me as a “Moon” since I was a little girl. I love having special art that ties in my original family to my new family.
I had my eye on this awesome chair and Brett’s parents surprised me with it at our shower! It’s so comfy and sometimes I go rock in it…just because.
Brett’s mom crocheted us a ton of stuff! My favorite is this chevron blanket. Isn’t it beautiful?!
The shelf is already full of some of my favorite childhood books.
LOVE the Ikea Hemnes dresser! I want to steal it out of the nursery and use it in our master bedroom!
Raleigh enjoys the room too!
We think Raleigh will adjust well and welcome Baby Shewcraft to the family just fine! 🙂
